In my school, a small rural upstate NY school, students call their teachers Mr. ____ or Mrs. ____. I teach Spanish, so my students call me Sra. Bush.

In Romanian public schools students call their teachers: Mr / Mrs Surname and if they want to be more polite they add "teacher" between Mr / Mrs and the surname; e.g. Mrs teacher Munteanu (that's me)

In private schools students use their teachers' first name (in most schools and especially when they speak to young teachers)

Our elementary school is 80% Hispanic and most of the kids call the women teachers "Miss"!  We are located in Arlington, Texas.  Our school is Webb Elementary.

    Hope this helps!

I can't remember times when teachers where called by their first names - maybe a regional thing or depending on the type of school? My teachers definitely would never have accepted such a thing - nor would I, come to that :))

If teachers have an academic title they sometimes insist on it being used: Herr Doktor + last name or Frau Doktor + last name. Might be considered either a question of politeness or vanity ;)

I am curious: what do you need this piece of information for?

    Let us know!

    Hi Maria!

In Serbia pupils from the first to the fourth grade (7-11 years) call their teachers UCITELJU (male) or UCITELJICE (famele). From the fifth to the eight grade (11-14) they call them NASTAVNICHE (male) or NASTAVNICE (female) and from the age 15 to 18 (secondary schools) they call them PROFESORE (male) or PROFESORKA (female). in kindergartens they call the teachers by first names of nicknames.

In Germany, students address teachers "Frau" + last name (for females) or "Herr" + last name respectively. In the past it was fashionable with some teachers/ some schools to allow the students to address teachers using their first names, but that is no longer the case, I think.

In Israel the pupils refer to the teacher with "teacher" or as we say "hamore" for male and "hamora" for female. Older/highschool pupils call the teacher by their first name. In universities it depends, the teachers are refered to by their status Dr.(last name), Professor (last name) unless the teacher asks otherwise.

In the United States the teacher is called Mr. (last name) for male and Miss (last name) for unmarried female or Mrs. (last name) for married female.  In our universities and colleges the teacher is called professor.

America the teachers are addressed as Mr. or Mrs. along with their last names.  Occasionally, preschool students use Mrs. plus the first name, but this is rare in the regular school years.

    Hope that helps
